Résumé
The present study describes the validation, with a sample of 561 French pupils aged 11 to 17 from junior high schools, of a shortened form of standard cloze test which was elaborated in French-speaking Belgium (De Landsheere, 1978). The results show a good internal homogeneity of this tested form, both at pupil and classroom levels as units of statistical analysis, support its convergent validity and allow to study determinants of cloze achievements. They indicate that this test evaluates--primarily--two factors: grammatical structures and vocabulary acquisition. It supports the cogency of use of rational cloze.
